I think I'll dress like a boy today

let's make out

Unfortunately, you're a girl.
And girls are drama, high maintenance, moody, crazy, whiney, shady, touchy, pushy, little creatures.

Fortunately, you're a girl.
And you don't have to dress like one. Embrace the menswear trends with items you could easily pass on to your boy toy. Try on some oxfords with a relaxed beanie and your favorite, comfortable boyfriend fit denim. Top it off with wide-faced wayfare shades, maybe a whiskey coke, and you've got yourself a chill yet rather dapper spin on casual man-wear.

What will you do on your day as a chill dude? My guesses would be: no over-analyzing texts, taking out the trash or filling up with gas (because as far as I'm concerned, those are men's only responsibilities), don't worry about looking perfect and finally, hanging out with the bro's--er, friends. #bromance aka #girlsnight

It's been real, dawg (that's how guys talk, right? sure.)
Let that androgyny shine.

Why Spotify Is Better Than Your Last Boyfriend

Last summer was really hard for me.
I went through a break up...

WITH ITUNES.

And honey, it was the best decision I've ever made. Since you've been gone, iTunes, I can breathe for the first time. I'm so moving on, yeah. Yeah. Thanks to you, now I get what I want.

Since we said our goodbyes, iTunes, I've both found myself and someone else. I rediscovered a purpose for living... I found passions I didn't know I had... I found someone who can be there whether I'm happy, sad, energetic, tired, or bored... someone who knows what I want even when I don't know what I want... someone who isn't there to judge me... someone who knows my favorite things and centers its life around my preferences..

SPOTIFY<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Okay, getting serious now, what did the music-loving music population do before Spotify was in existence? I suppose B.S. (before Spotify) us muggles were forced to BUY EH-VER-REY FREAK-ANG song on iTunes OR risk our LIVES illegally downloading through GOD KNOWS WHAT PLATFORMS or going through 87 different refreshed pages to download it through YouTube--which AIN'T NOBODY GOT THA TIME FOR--just for the sake of listening to 2 Chainz while you get ready to go out on the weekends.

But gone are the days that you have to sell your soul to iTunes or miscellaneous internet downloading sites just to hear your favorite shoo bop doo wops. Jesus loves us, this I know, for THE INVENTION OF SPOTIFY TELLS ME SO.

Why is Spotify so great, you ask yourself, what's the big hoo-rah about, you wonder, why the heck do I need to go premium, you ponder, or Who is Spotify and does he have any friends I can date??? Behold my reasons for falling in love with a music-based social media platform.

Why Spotify is better than your last boyfriend.

  1. Spotify keeps you informed. It lets you follow your friends' playlists and see what they're listening to in real time. I like this because I get sick of my music and once you find one or two super musically-inclined hipsters, you'll never be at a loss of what to listen to on a Tuesday night. Besides, discovering what a person listens to is just super telling.
  2. Spotify doesn't judge you. Hi, I like Miley Cyrus, we can't stop. I cannot stop. That song is good and I won't stop. But you know what? I don't have to stop. I can play all day err day until SUNday because Spotify let's me engage "private mode," in which I can frolick to WE CAN'T STOP in the privacy of my own eardrums and not broadcast it to Facebook Nation.
  3. Spotify understands you when you don't understand you. For all you Pandora groupies, you don't have to fret about the transition to Spotify. The "radio" feature lets you pick a song, and it delicately hand-crafts a radio based on a song of your preference... #truelove
  4. Spotify does the work for you. For those of you who know what you kind of sort of want to listen to, but not sure what artists to choose, and aren't sure where to start, and aren't sure what to do with your hands, fear not. The "lazify" feature app literally makes an entire playlist for you based on a song of your choice. This feature will not clean your house.
  5. Spotify knows how you like your coffee. No it doesn't. But it does automatically keep track of all your favorite songs. The ones you gave a star. And you know what? It will never forget your favorite things and they'll always be there waiting on you. <3
  6. Spotify lets you reminisce on the past. Are you still lingering onto your old relationship? Spotify isn't here to be jealous. Spotify makes room for your baggage. That's why there's a "local files" feature that lets you access all your old (and most likely really lame music from high school) library. But don't even think about accessing Spotify through iTunes because once you go black you never go back. Err whatever, but it's not possible, I've tried.
  7. Spotify wants to give you the world. Your last flame probably wasn't as generous. But with Spotify, you have a WOLRD of music at your fingertips. Like... The. World. TODO EL MUNDO, Y'ALL.
  8. Spotify loves you only as much as you let it. I let it love me at its fullest potential because romantic comedies teach you to not settle for less than you deserve AMIRITE. What I'm getting at is, Spotify premium is the way to go. It's time to commit. Take your relationship to the next level. Just $10 a month, y'all. Relationships take work. So if you have to work to pay that $10 a month, then sister, McDonald's is hiring in a city near you.

Music to solve all your problems.

Just to drive my point home, since Spotify, I've seriously dived headfirst into tons of albums and artists I never would have in my iTunes days. 1) Because who can afford entire collections of Freddie King and Otis Redding, 2) Who can decide what they like in 30 seconds or less?????? don't answer that..... Spotify has made me into a person with half way decent taste in music. You too can get off your basic b#tch billboard chart toppers too, if you believe you can achieve. . . . <3

I.. knoww... it's only stripes and floral.. but I liiike iiittt....

(Said that in the melody of the Rolling Stones song??? Anyone???? anyways.....)

This pattern combination hasn't gone out of style yet. I say if you haven't worn stripes and brights together yet, it's time to. It's all about being bold, electric and refusing to settle for less than eccentric. #AccidentalRhyming

I'm so glad 2012's pastels have been put to rest. I'm slowly getting over the fashion world's "mint" craze, and I'm ready to keep summer alive with contrasting patterns and colors through the fall.

Go stripes & florals cray-zay.

Like a Moth to a Flame

moth to a flame

I am so beyond drawn to anything remotely metallic lately. I'm just one thoughtless fashion attack away from fashioning myself a pencil skirt of foil from the kitchen drawer. Anything shiny and reflective from clothes to accessories has jumped to the top of my must have list.

The items above are my objects of envy. Especially the gold booties, because mine have SURELY seen better days.

Where I'm frolicking lately--weekends in Dallas

I love Dallas. Here's a list of places I went to and things I did for the first time last weekend. Also Known As. where I frolicked about lalalalalalalallalalala

Oh, honey. Ohhhhhh, honey. I enjoyed a cocktail, appetizer, main dish, side dish AND desert. Could you say I got a full Porch experience? Absolutely yes. Was it enough? Absolutely not. I cannot wait to go back. Not only was the food SPOT FREAKING ON, but the service was truly genuine and wonderful. The server for my table of 5 was attentive, funny and knowledgable. And passionate. You can tell he loved his job, loved working there, and believed in the food.

The five of us ordered the calamari starter because it's supposed to be the best in Dallas. Now, I've been to Madrid, and have eaten fresh Calamari by the oceans of Santander (flips hair with stuck up nose in air, takes on a British accent) so I consider myself to have a well-pallated taste in the calamari arts and sciences.
OH HONEY.
The calamari at The Porch was truly uncanny. Order it. I also had the crab cake salad (to die), garlic bread (couldn't breathe, so good), bites of bread pudding (holy hotcakes it was good), and the berry panna cotta (cried tears of joy like a mother does after she sees her child for the first time).

I am literally obsessed with myself after getting my hair done here. Don't you love that feeling? Walk in feeling like a troll, walk out with as much confidence as Miley Cyrus with 90s boy band hair in a leotard.

Me waking up every day with roots, before Avalon Salon:

Me walking out of the salon:

If you want to know details about my great experience here, tweet yo' gurr.

I. Had. So. Much. Fun. Here. I ordered the "huge slice" of veggie pizza with a nice, tall cider. Fun staff and cool regulars. AND GOOD MUSIC. #Thirdeyeblind #90sgrunge. It's exactly the atmosphere, personality and raw "We don't give a shit" vibes that everyone wants from their favorite hole-in-the-wall pizza place. If you've ever been to Cafe Rio in Ruidoso, New Mexico, it's very similar in style and menu.

Word on the (Deep Ellum) street is that they have a $5 pizza & beer deal there on Mondays. #ExtendingTheWeekend

Aaaaahhhhhh. I want to come here and just read a book (aka bring a book, and get distracted blogging). It's fun to look through all the exhibits but there is a large sitting/eating area where you could literally just go and *enjoy*. There were people reading, studying, catching up with friends and just overall having a pleasant Sunday.

My favorite parts:
  • Wendy & Emery Reeves collections and apartment replica. The apartment used to be Coco Chanel's, then she gave it to The Reeves. This replica of the apartment includes their collections and it's stunning.
  • The DMA cafe. What's my favorite part of a museum you ask? THA FOOD!!! ha. Okay, but really, the food there is no joke. I had a fresh salad with a wonderful quiche. They also had delicious fancy soup and sandwiches. Said the person I was with, "The chef meticulously put together this sandwich as if it was a piece of art itself."
  • Dallas history exhibit. It covers JFK, which was awesome, but my favorite part was a huge room that goes into the history about each district in Dallas. Learned so much and LOVED it.
I should mention that the Visual Communications class I took this spring prepared me immensely for this museum trip.

I love being a Dallas noob. Follow me on instagram to stay uPdAtEd ~!~~~~~~

Weekend Warrior Cliche, etc

weekend warrior

Being young, single, spontaneous and alive and free in a big, strange city makes me get all riled up. I love Dallas. Every weekend I try to go somewhere I've never gone and do something I've never done. I'm in the process of compiling a Dallas bucket list with full intentions to put any and all kinds of normal and or abnormal adventures on it.

Things I've tried in Dallas this summer that I've never done before:

  • Psycho Gym. Holy shit they weren't kidding.
  • Swam in apartment pool at 3 AM.
  • Eat at Studio Movie Grill. I saw Man of Steel there. Loved the movie theatre, loved the movie.
  • Frolic on a roof in downtown Dallas on a bright and happy Sunday.
  • There was a pool on the roof. #ThingsYouDon'tSeeInLubbockTX
  • Drink the famous Pearl Cup Latte. And yum.
  • Taste the famous Yutaka sushi in uptown. Conichiwa, I'm yours forever, Yutaka.
  • Go to church twice a week. NOTHING BETTER THAN FINDING A SOLID CHURCH.
  • Help design a customized men's dress shirt. Rye 51 in uptown where the dapper dudes chillax apparently.

now go do something you've never done before.
